Trash for Teaching

Trash for Teaching (T4T) is an environmentally friendly company that is focused on educating teachers, students, and businesses about reducing, reusing, and recycling.  The company collects, stores, recycles and reuses materials at their site that are leftovers from manufacturing processes at businesses.  The materials are brought to school campuses
in the T4T "Treasure Truck" where the students get to "shop" for these cast-off materials to use in 3-dimensional art projects.  In addition, the company provides professional development for teachers in how to incorporate the use of recyclable items in their curriculum in conjunction with standards.  Furthermore, they highlight the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling on campuses.

T4T was introduced to Lanai for the 2006/2007 school year and is funded through the Arts Prototype Program.  Lanai students created fabulous works of art and displayed them in the auditorium for family and friends.  In addition, teachers became aware of this company where they can request, order, and/or pick up the cast-off materials for FREE to use in their classroom!  They also became aware of how to find and productively use cast-off materials of their own.  It was a fitting year to introduce this program to our school, as our campus-wide recycling program (headed by mom Robbie Solomon) was kicked off.
